The main goal of the publication titled Cadre de référence relatif à l’usage optimal des anti-infectieux et au suivi de l’utilisation de ces médicaments en milieu hospitalier (terms of reference for optimal use of anti-infective drugs and follow-up of their use in hospital settings) is to assist hospital administrators and key stakeholders with the set-up of structured follow-up and optimization programs for the use of anti-infective drugs at their health care institutions. It also endeavours to provide a template for local, regional and national follow-up data collection. The implementation of these and other measures, in accordance with the terms of reference, should provide for better health care and help fight against the emergence of multiple resistant bacteria. The terms of reference include follow-up guidelines for hospital settings, preferred set-ups and implementation resources, as well as recommendations on implementation and follow-up methods. This document sets out the parameters for a framework program on optimal use of anti-infective drugs in general and specialized hospital centres (CHSGS) and health and social services centres (CSSS) that serve as hospitals. The framework program is intended to reduce health complications caused by non-optimal use of these drug products and to contain the growth of multiple resistant bacteria.
