Sondage - Qu’avez-vous pensé :

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Studies have suggested that mammographic density increases the risk of developing breast cancer and also reduces mammographic sensitivity. The MSSS asked INESSS to determine whether mammographic density constitutes a significant risk factor for breast cancer and if so, whether this risk justifies personalized screening for women with extremely dense breasts.

Following an analysis of the scientific literature, INESSS has issued a series of findings concerning:

  • mammographic density and cancer risk;
  • frequency of screening mammography in women with extremely dense breasts;
  • supplemental imaging following a negative screening mammogram in women with extremely dense breasts;
  • current guidelines.

INESSS’s breast cancer investigation, treatment and follow-up algorithms that are made available via our website are being updated in accordance with the findings of this state of knowledge report.
