Assessment of photodynamic therapy using porfimer sodium for esophageal, bladder and lung cancers
05-13-2004 | Cancérologie
Photodynamic therapy remains a promising treatment whose evolution must continue to be monitored, especially with respect to the photosensitizing agents themselves. Currently, evidence-based indications are limited to the palliative treatment of advanced esophageal cancer, and it is difficult to estimate the relative importance of this technology in the therapeutic arsenal available for the other oncological applications. A more in-depth examination should be conducted on the potential use of this technology in the treatment of Barrett’s esophagus. In such case, the use of this therapy would affect a greater number of patients since this disorder may appear after gastric reflux, a very widespread problem today.
