Action Plan for Asthma Attacks - Emergency Setting

 |

The Action Plan for Asthma Attacks – Emergency Setting is a practical tool for health emergency professionals and health professionals likely to encounter patients experiencing an asthma attack. It aims to:

  • facilitate patient follow-up and communication;
  • help ensure that the treatment of asthma patients is observed;
  • encourage the appropriate use of medication and a better control of asthma in asthma patients.

This plan, when used in emergencies, can help patients more quickly recover from an attack and better control their health following an attack, decreasing their risk of relapse.

The action plan contains the following:

  • a prescription form for control and relief medications;
  • two additional copies of the prescription form, one for the medical file and one for the patient;
  •  five tips to help asthma patients stay in control of their asthma.

The Action Plan for Asthma Attacks – Emergency Setting was developed by the Conseil du médicament, before it became INESSS, in cooperation with the McGill University Health Centre and several asthma experts. INESSS is continuing to distribute the Action Plan for Asthma Attacks – Emergency Setting, as the information the plan contains is still current.
