The efficacy and safety profile of nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) at the usual doses is well known. On the other hand, the efficacy and safety of higher doses used in patches, the long-acting form of NRT, are poorly documented.

A series of findings are presented in this document, particularly with regard to the effectiveness and safety of patches.
