The practice of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is recognized as being safe and is recommended in most of the current guidelines for women who meet the eligibility criteria. Women who attempt a VBAC may decide to do so at a hospital, a birthing centre or at home under the supervision of a physician or a midwife.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services asked INESSS to 1) evaluate the safety of VBAC settings and 2) identify the practices and factors that contribute to successful VBACs.
After integrating the experiential, contextual and scientific data, and the consultations with the experts, the stakeholders and the members of its Comité d’excellence clinique, INESSS has issued a set of findings (11) and recommendations (6).
