Management of the extravasation of antineoplastic agents

06-12-2014 | Cancérologie

Extravasation is a potentially serious complication that can occur during the administration of chemotherapy. There is little evidence for developing an optimal management scheme.

This clinical guideline was prepared by the Comité de l’évolution des pratiques en oncologie (CEPO) in cooperation with the guideline and advice subcommittee of the Comité de l'évolution de la pratique des soins pharmaceutiques of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux’s Direction québécoise de cancérologie. The objective was to examine the relevant scientific literature on the management and treatment of extravasation that occurs when chemotherapy is administered to cancer patients.

Given the evidence available at this time and the guidelines published by various organizations, the CEPO makes some recommandations.
