Efficacy of neglect interventions for Indigenous children, families and communities

The MSSS asked the Institut national d'excellence en santé et en services sociaux (INESSS) for guidance on neglect interventions and intervention modalities that are effective for Indigenous children, families and communities affected by this problem and on which factors facilitate their implementation.

The literature review points out the importance of interventions and intervention modalities that are planned, concerted, diversified and based on a holistic perspective. It also underscores the importance of culture and the participation of Indigenous individuals and communities in all aspects of planning, implementing and assessing the neglect interventions that concern them. INESSS concludes that neglect interventions must therefore go beyond the individual intervention, with emphasis placed on the parent-child relationship, and also take into account the family-environment relationship and the improvement of living conditions in Indigenous communities.
